There are 5 components to Literacy:


Phonemic Awareness: listeners are able to hear, identify and manipulate phonemes
that can differentiate meaning.

Phonics: involves teaching how to connect the sounds of spoken English with letters or groups of letters and teaching them to blend the sounds of letters together to produce approximate pronunciations of unknown words.

Vocabulary: a list or collection of the words or phrases of a language that specifically describe a meaning or interpretation.

Fluency: the ability to read text accurately and quickly.

Comprehension: the ability to understand what is being read throughly.
